Hot Yoga Tips (Wind-removing Pose)

Bikram Hot Yoga Wind-removing Pose

Wind removing pose (one leg) is all about hip and colon compression, make sure your knee is moving towards your shoulder and not the elbow

Try your best to keep your straight leg on the floor, if the calf muscle is not touching the floor, you can flex your foot in towards your face until your calf touches the floor then relax the foot

Special note on the grip with one knee:

Make sure to include your thumbs in your grip, ten fingers must be all interlocked to gain the full effect of the posture, you should be seeing your fingers turning white from the interlocking pressure

Wind removing pose is great for improving blood flow to fingers through these compression mechanisms

When it comes to the “both legs” version, target is to bring the knees in and keep them together, while trying to bring the neck and the tailbone down towards the floor

Special note on Wind Removing Pose (both legs)

Even though we are asking for knees together, neck and tailbone on the floor, most people simply will not be able to do all three at the same time, in that case, you need to prioritize the portion of the posture which is the most important:

1st:   Grabbing the elbows and keeping the knees together

2nd:  Tucking the chin in to the chest, keeping neck long on the floor (making “double chin”)

3rd:   Bringing the tailbone to touch the floor

For teachers: It is equally important to practice this priority as to teach it, being able to observe and teach good alignment is what will make you a great teacher!
