Standing Separate Legs Stretching

Bikram Hot Yoga Balancing Stick

Standing Separate legs stretching is the only standing forward bending posture where it is physically possible to have the spine stretched all the way straight so make sure you do that!

Special Note on Standing Separate Stretching:

Aim to gently touch the forehead on the floor while pulling on the heels or the outside of the feet, if you begin to feel a strong weight on the forehead on the floor, you need to start walking the feet slightly closer to each other and start pulling again to keep the forehead ever so gently touching the floor for as long as possible, to find that ultimate equilibrium in this posture

Special Note on the grip:

Grab the heels if possible, if not try to grab the outside of the feet, it can be difficult to grab the feet in the beginning, try to begin by sliding the middle finger under the outside of the feet and gradually bringing more fingers under the feet and eventually all 5 fingers will be under the feet and from there you will start moving back to eventually reach the heel one day, this entire process can take years, keep practicing!

The above grips will be considered “wrong” in the original practice. While they do not give you the exact same effect as the “correct” grip, they do not pose any harm or danger to you if you use them

*Ultimately it is up to you to decide what path you would like to follow as a practitioner and as a teacher
